Board adopts E-Learning Plan 2024–2027 after brief public question on snow-day criteria

The Board of Education of School District 68 voted unanimously Nov. 21 to adopt the E-Learning Plan 2024–2027, a three-year plan that the district will forward to the Regional Office of Education for final approval.
Diana Schmidt, coordinator of curriculum and school improvement, presented the plan and outlined required steps completed prior to the public hearing, including publication at least 10 days before the hearing and written or electronic notices to families and employee representatives. Parent Janna Simon of Highland Elementary asked for clarification on "the criteria that will be used to determine a snow day or an E-Learning day," a question the Board acknowledged during the hearing but for which no additional operational criterion was recorded in the minutes. The approval motion, moved by Jeff Sterbenc and seconded by Katrina Bell-Jordan, carried by roll call vote with all present members voting AYE (Bell-Jordan, Hayat, Lonigro, Ruffner, Sterbenc, Warshaw; Sullivan absent).
The Board's adoption begins a three-year term of district-level use (2024–25 through 2026–27) pending Regional Office of Education acceptance. The minutes note that the district followed the statutorily required notice and hearing steps before board action.
