Commission confirms chair signs resolution; individual signatures not required

Commission counsel (Mister Wright) reminded the commission that past practice of collecting individual commissioner signatures is not a legal requirement under the commission's rules and that the recommended approach is a single cover resolution signed by the chair and attested by the clerk and city attorney.
"In fact, your current rules provide that the commission would adopt a resolution that would incorporate its findings and then that would be signed by the chair and then, delivered to the clerk," Mister Wright said. Commissioners agreed that dispensing with individual signatures avoided tension when a commissioner disagreed with a final report and that the chair should sign the cover resolution.
The commission discussed whether to change that approach but concluded the existing practice — chair signature only — would stand unless the body moved to alter it in a future meeting. Staff will prepare the cover resolution to accompany the circulated report and attachments.
