During Q&A, an attendee asked about the biggest challenge in completing the productivity submittal and gaining approval. Mike said the submittal process was straightforward and forms had improved since he completed his submission two years earlier; he added that leadership supported the project and paying awards was handled internally.
Asked whether AI might help manage traffic through cameras and smart signage, Mike said he was not the traffic expert but noted WSDOT already uses variable signage and express toll lanes to improve throughput and that the agency is embracing AI in several areas while traffic experts explore specific applications. The moderator closed the meeting, said links and surveys would be shared, and announced the next Coffee Klatch on August 13 at 10 a.m. with Secretary of State Steve Hobbs as the guest.
