Committee reports 52 event grants awarded across Washington; History Assist grants to open next month

Dylan, who is managing grants for the semiquincentennial program, briefed the committee on the first round of awards and plans for future capacity funding.
"We were able to fully fund 52 of those grant proposals, awarding just over $50,000, to events happening throughout the state," Dylan said, adding that the awards were made from more than 100 applications. He said the event grants — up to $1,000 each — were funded through the U.S. Economic Development Administration via the Washington State Department of Commerce.
Dylan also said the committee expects to open a History Assist or capacity‑building grant next month to help museums and history organizations expand access and public engagement of collections. Jay (committee staff) said the grants covered events in more than 20 counties and that the program will be included in the committee’s final report.
The committee did not take a vote on new funding at this meeting; Dylan framed the History Assist round as a forthcoming opportunity and said staff will return with details to the committee.
