Arcola approves engineering work for lift-station rehab and 450‑ft sewer replacement

Arcola’s city council voted April 8 to hire engineering and surveying services (proposal capped at $39,400) to rehabilitate Lift Station No. 3 and to replace roughly 450 linear feet of 12‑inch sanitary sewer along North Pine. City engineer Lawrence Turner said televising the sewer line found punctures and a sag that holds sewage and allows groundwater infiltration into the wet well.
Turner described the findings and recommended removal and replacement of the damaged line and a lift‑station interior rehabilitation similar to a recent project at Dallas and Masterson. “We got in 1 area where it looked like somebody tried to drill through the line. It may have been a utility company or something that did some work,” Turner said, and he added that a sag was holding about nine inches of water in the 12‑inch pipe. Council member Abar moved to award the engineering contract to proceed with design, surveying and construction‑phase services; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Staff said the work will require bypass pumping during construction and that the contractor must supply a bypass plan for city review and approval. The project design phase and construction planning are expected to follow promptly now that the council has authorized the engineering agreement.
