The City Commission voted to award the City of Canyon's primary depository services contract to Happy State Bank, adopting Resolution No. 11-2026 on April 7. Finance Director Joel Wright told commissioners the current contract expires Aug. 31, 2026, and the city solicited proposals from several banks before recommending Happy State Bank as "the most advantageous for the City of Canyon." Mayor Gary Hinders abstained from the final vote.
Wright told the commission that state law requires eligible financial institutions to be located within the City of Canyon's municipal boundaries and that Valley View Consulting assisted with the solicitation and evaluation. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Commissioner Danny Potter, seconded by Mayor Pro-Tem Cody Jones, and carried with a recorded abstention by the mayor.
