Oxford elections board sets write-in deadline, absentee schedule ahead of June vote

The chair of the Board of Election Supervisors told commissioners the deadline for write-in candidate applications is midnight on Saturday, June 6, and that the board will convene to certify any write-in on Monday, June 8. "Should there be a write in candidate or candidates, they must submit their applicate, their application by no later than midnight on Saturday to be in the running," the elections chair said.
The board also set the last day to request an absentee ballot as June 9 and explained options for returning ballots. "Absentee ballot applications are available online at the town office and upon request via email," the chair said, and staff emphasized that as the election nears it may become impossible to request ballots by mail. The town plans to collect mail from the post office box after the 4:15 p.m. deadline on June 16 and will count absentee ballots deposited in the drop box after polls close at 8 p.m.
The elections chair said the Women Voters organization has agreed to hold a candidate forum if a write-in files on June 6 and asked residents to send candidate questions in advance so organizers can prepare. Residents were told to place applications in the town hall drop box if submitting on the weekend.
