Board awards bleachers and electrical bids, defers some site work amid material-price pressures

The board approved awards for two Bidpack 1 categories after hearing construction managers and the project manager describe competitive bid results and supply risks. Administration recommended moving forward with bleachers and the press box and the related electrical package to secure long lead-time items; the motion to award the bleachers bid to Southern Bleacher Company, Inc. carried with the board saying "Aye." The board then approved awarding the electrical contract to Shoreline Power Services in the amount of $358,000.

Project staff told the board that bids across categories were generally consistent and that recent market movements — particularly a reported spike in aluminum pricing — increased the risk of further escalation. "The last 30 days, the aluminum prices went up over 90% is the feedback we're getting out of industry," a project representative said, explaining why early award of long lead-time items is prudent to meet athletic-season schedules. As a result, site work tied specifically to stadium foundations and bleacher demolition will be coordinated with the awarded contractors, while other site components such as the baseball-field renovation and playground work were placed on hold or planned for potential self-performance at a later date.

Board members pressed staff about sequencing, the balance between athletic and academic priorities, and safety concerns for existing facilities; staff said design and bid sequencing for CTE and other academic projects remains on schedule for spring bidding with construction expected in the fall. A follow-up recommendation and additional bid details on site work were promised in roughly 2–3 weeks.
