Assistant Superintendent Christie Samojedny told the Board that 37% of students met or exceeded Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) standards in English language arts in 2024, up from 35% in 2023, and that 30% met or exceeded standards in math, up from 29% the previous year. She also reported that 63% of fifth graders and 57% of eighth graders achieved Proficient or Exemplary levels on the Illinois Assessment of Science (ISA), increases of 5 percentage points and 15 percentage points respectively from 2023. On English-learner measures, she said the district exited just over 12% of EL students this year—compared with a state exit rate of about 6%—and that 37% of EL students scored at Expanding or higher on ACCESS.
Samojedny credited targeted curriculum work and social-emotional learning supports for part of the district's progress and said chronic absenteeism has improved since 2022 as a result of SEL initiatives and strengthened family outreach. The presentation relied on state-designated summative categories and the district's 5 Essentials climate survey as planning tools. No formal action was taken on the report; it was provided for the Board's information and planning.
