Committee members reported several near-term safety and equipment improvements. A 30‑day trial with FirstNet began to test improved radio reception options for crews; Justin Kafer and others reported that recently installed additional lights at the hotmix plant "work well" per the minutes. Face shields were placed in truck cabs for mastic/rubber operations, wing markers were added to state wings, and lights on trailer 4287 were relocated higher for visibility.
The committee also noted that earbud use has been addressed by the human resources mobile devices policy to ensure staff remain aware of surroundings, and a fire extinguisher was added to the mastic machine. Staff assigned follow-up tasks including building an enclosure on the mastic kettle to store face shields.
