Stratford volunteer firefighters urge increased funding ahead of potential OSHA changes

Members of the Stratford Volunteer Fire Department addressed the Stratford Town Board during the public comment period to press for increased funding tied to possible new OSHA requirements. They said the department will need to buy equipment for a new truck, replace personal protective equipment and complete building repairs to meet evolving safety standards.
Fire Chief Donald Vedder also described recent unplanned expenses, telling the board that a water-line repair cost the department $5,000 and "was repaired by his son and has been paid for." The firefighters said the department is growing in membership and that additional resources are necessary for both public safety and member safety.
