Skokie District 69 board approves 2025 tentative tax levy

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Skokie School District 69 Board of Education approved the district’s 2025 tentative tax levy, voting unanimously after a motion from Dr. Mark Chao and a second from Board member Devin Savage. The vote followed administrative presentations explaining timing and cash-flow implications of Cook County’s delayed tax bills.
Administrators told the Board that Cook County expected to mail property tax bills on Nov. 15 and that the district anticipated receiving related revenue around Dec. 15, 2025, creating potential cash-flow pressure without reserves. The administration recommended a $706,763 transfer from the Operations & Maintenance fund to the Debt Service fund to pay principal and interest on bonds used for Lincoln Junior High; those debt payments are scheduled for Dec. 1, 2025 and June 1, 2026. The Board also approved related abatement and supplemental-levy resolutions as part of standard annual debt procedures.
Dr. Margaret Clauson, superintendent, summarized the recommendation and the district’s contingency planning for delayed county tax timetables. The levy motion passed on a roll call vote: Ayes — Freeman, Marsden, Bair, Khabeer, Chao, Savage, England; Nays — none. The Board set a Truth in Taxation public hearing for Dec. 16, 2025 as required by statute.
