Wastewater board and permitting office outline pump-station limits amid RV park build-out

Landlords and residents told the Police Jury that local sewer infrastructure is strained and that adding more RV spots risks backups. "You can only pump so much crap through a line," said Malcolm Skipper, who described repeated local sewer outages and urged jurors to stop allowing incremental park growth without ensuring sewer capacity.

Anthony Theriault, who identified himself as a wastewater board member, said the core problem is often pump-station capacity rather than pond size: "Just because the pond can hold it, doesn't mean your pump station in your area can." He described planned pump-motor upgrades funded by a grant but said flow between multiple pump stations can still create backups. Robin Morales in the permitting office said the permitting process requires a water-district approval letter documenting sewer and water capacity and the number of spots before the parish issues a permit: "Before we issue a permit, we contact the water district for an approval letter to make sure that they have sewer and water and the number of spots that they're permitting." Jurors discussed case-by-case conditions and said they would work more closely with the wastewater board to confirm capacity before approving more large parks.
