Auditor: Cameron Parish Police Jury gets clean opinion, fund balance flagged

The Cameron Parish Police Jury received an unmodified audit opinion for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2025, auditor Brian McCain told jurors at their Aug. 10 meeting.
"Happy to report that we didn't have any reportable findings," McCain said, adding that the audit yielded a clean opinion. He pointed jurors to the financial schedules and noted the general fund's unassigned fund balance was about $5,100,000 while the general fund's revenues were roughly $16,500,000 and expenses about $15.2 million. McCain said that equates to an unassigned balance of about 30% of expenditures, below a common rule-of-thumb of roughly 50%.
The auditor described parish accounting controls as sound and praised staff for their work. The chair asked if jurors had questions; none were raised during the presentation. The audit report was made available to the public via the Legislative Auditor's website, staff said.
