Huachuca City Council authorized staff on March 12 to submit Congressionally Directed Spending requests seeking a ladder fire engine and funding for water meter upgrades, with the ladder truck given top priority.
Town Manager Suzanne Harvey said she had already submitted a Community Project Funding request to Congressman Ciscomani for a $1.3 million ladder truck and requested authorization to also submit the request to Senator Mark Kelly. “I submitted to Congressman Siscomani a CPF request for $1.3 million for a ladder truck,” Harvey said, and told the council the town would need an approximate $200,000–$300,000 local match, putting the total purchase near $1.5 million.
Harvey explained the procurement timeline and matching requirements, noting funds would flow through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities program and that matches could be covered across two fiscal years. She also requested concurrent submission of a separate request for water-meter upgrades and asked council to prioritize the ladder truck. Councilmember Johann Wallace moved the approvals, Christy Hirshberg seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The council gave staff direction to pursue both requests and to coordinate any required local-match budgeting as the federal and USDA processes progress.
