Residents press Selectboard to resolve Bradley Cemetery upkeep as association remains inactive

Selectboard members heard a packed public discussion about Bradley Cemetery on June 22 after Town Administrator Cathy Ainsworth told the group the Bradley Cemetery Association appears to be inactive and the town cannot use $15,000 held in trust for the cemetery. Ainsworth said the remaining individual representing the association has two options: restart the association with new officers or legally dissolve it and transfer responsibility for the cemetery to the town.
Several residents described visible problems at the cemetery and urged action. Albert Morey said there is money in the fund but maintenance has lapsed; attendees and board members discussed community volunteers stepping in for mowing and tree work. Visitor Bill Fairchild said, "I am what is left of the Association. There are forms that need filing to reinstate or dissolve the association." Selectboard member Brian Dubie told the group the town would likely accept responsibility if the association is legally dissolved: "Probably, we've done it for other cemeteries." The board reiterated it presently lacks authority to spend the cemetery fund while the association is inoperative and the required signatories are not in good standing with the Secretary of State.
