The Town of Fairfield Selectboard voted April 27 to send a letter to state officials highlighting concerns about proposed rule changes tied to Act 181. Brian Dubie, who delivered the Act 181 update, told the board that "Road Rule and Tier 3 are being repealed," and members discussed potential unintended consequences for landowners.
Board members said they were worried that language connected to Act 59 could, without clear notice or local input, convert what had been a tax-incentive program into a state-mandated conservation program and negatively affect land in current use, particularly where owners work with foresters. Brian Dubie moved to send the proposed letter; Ron Bocash seconded. The motion passed with Dubie, Bocash and Damian Branon in favor and David Persons abstaining. The board did not direct additional staff action at the meeting beyond sending the letter.
