Huachuca City moves to update town code to comply with state firearms preemption

Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez asked the council for authorization to prepare ordinances amending several town-code sections that currently conflict with state preemption of firearms regulation, including proposed edits to Section 18.100.210(D)(1), Section 9.20 and Section 2.55.070. He said the goal is to bring the town code into compliance with state law.
Council approved the motion to prepare the ordinances in a unanimous vote. The minutes record that the attorney advised some town prohibitions were not permitted under state law; the drafts will return to council for formal consideration, public notice and any required hearings before adoption.
