Community development reports 77 building permits and $7 million in July construction

The Community Development Department reported July activity and project updates: staff said 77 building permits were issued in July with approximately $7,000,000 in construction value, 142 occupancy inspections, 915 building inspections and 191 code-enforcement cases.
Community development coordinator Abigail Klein (speaker 11) highlighted local projects: Artisan Apartment Complex completed its first phase; Brandywine has 16 buildings occupied with five under construction; the Saint Elizabeth's Hospital MOB tenant finishes expect a September opening target; preliminary site plans for a Meijer store are under review; Park Place has letters of intent from retailers and is working on power-line relocation; and several hotel projects are under construction. "In July, we issued 77 building permits. The total sum of construction was around $7,000,000," Klein said.
Klein also said staff is working with PJV Planners and Horner & Shiffrin on a zoning code update, with a draft planned for Sept. 26 for the planning commission and city council. The department also summarized that an ordinance amending Chapter 110 (business registrations) was adopted by council and will take effect Jan. 1, 2027, switching to a one-time $50 registration tied to occupancy permits.
