Superintendent: CTE mold remediation phase 1 complete; K–2 to New Oxford for 2026–27

Superintendent Dr. Perry reported a series of construction setbacks at the Career and Technical Education (CTE) project and described steps the district has taken to keep the schedule and protect students.

"We have phase 1 of the mold remediation that has been accomplished," Perry said, adding that phase 1 was completed at no cost to the district and that responsibility for a high change order for later remediation remains under negotiation. He told the board that mold was discovered in underground tunnels when contractors opened walls and that children and staff were not present when that condition was found.

Perry also announced that all district students in grades K–2 will be educated at New Oxford Elementary (NOE) and grade 3 students will join grades 4–6 at CBIS for the 2026–27 school year, citing rapid reassignments made to meet the start of school. He described ongoing work to re-sequence the construction schedule, noted localized weather delays and reported that design materials from MedEd are now with Moore Engineering after outreach by district staff.

Board members asked whether the mold presented a risk to students; Perry said testing and remediation occurred while buildings were unoccupied and that contractors are coordinating the repairs. He also addressed encountering rock at the NOE addition excavation and said the district purchased insurance to protect schedule, not to eliminate all cost risk, and that the overall project budget is being managed to keep costs under control.
