Fire and police say October was unusually busy; department leaders cite record‑year trajectory

Deputy Fire Chief Patrick McCarragher told the council that October was an "extremely busy month" with above-average fires and EMS responses and increased automatic-aid responses from Palmetto and South Fulton.
"October was an extremely busy month for us. We have experienced an above average number of fires and EMS incidents with increased automatic aid response through our neighboring jurisdictions of Palmetto and South Fulton. Presently, we are on track to record more incident responses in 2025 than has occurred in the history of the department," McCarragher said, and reminded residents that burn permits remain required.
Police Chief Kevin Digou also described a busy month: "If you just look at our dispatch calls between this time and last year, almost over 250 more calls between last year and this year, traffic citations almost four times as many," he said, adding that officers assisted neighboring agencies and that recent incidents received media attention. Both chiefs said staffing and interagency coordination remain priorities as call volume rises.
