South Jacksonville trustees reject municipal occupation tax proposals

Trustee Steve Retzer then moved to adopt a reduced 0.5% rate, seconded by Trustee Tom Jordan; roll-call voting recorded Trustees Jordan, Retzer and Preston in favor and Trustees Coleman, Stewart and Butler opposed, and President Samples also voted against the 0.5% proposal. The transcript records the board did not adopt the ordinance at the meeting; Attorney Roland Cross noted later the rate and scope remain modifiable and must be reported to the Illinois Department of Revenue if adopted in the future.
