Board reviews proposed high-school choice novels including Unbroken for English 10
Summary
Curriculum staff told the board the English 10 course may add the young-adult adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken as a choice novel in lit-circle units; the books would be optional selections within course reading lists and the board deferred formal adoption to the September/joint meeting schedule.

Curriculum staff updated the board on ongoing adoptions, noting high-school English teams met over the summer and proposed two choice novels for English 10. “They are requesting Unbroken, the young adult adaptation by Laura Hillenbrand,” the curriculum lead said, adding both novels would be used as optional lit-circle choices rather than required texts.
Staff noted elementary music resources are being sunset by a vendor and the district will need to adjust that curriculum area; members asked whether the SLP toolkit and other items should move forward at the joint city council meeting later in August and the board agreed to bring some items to the Aug. 24 joint session for additional consideration.
