Board to ask voters to approve two-year extension of Maplemere modular-classroom lease

The Sweet Home Central School District Board of Education resolved to place a proposition on the district’s May 19, 2026 budget vote asking voters to authorize a two-year extension of the lease for a modular temporary classrooms building serving Maplemere Elementary School.
The addendum would extend the existing lease from Nov. 1, 2026 through Oct. 31, 2028 at $2,205 per month, for a total cost of $52,920. Board materials say the building (approximately 28 by 62 feet, two classrooms) was installed in 2021 using federal stimulus funding and has been used to respond to enrollment increases and to provide intervention space.
The Board also reaffirmed its earlier State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) determination that the installation is a Type II action not subject to further SEQRA review, concluding no significant adverse environmental impacts were identified and noting no additional site work is proposed. The resolution directs the Superintendent and District Clerk to take necessary steps to place the proposition on the May ballot.
The extension was advanced as part of a consent resolution that passed with a recorded vote of Yes 6, No 0, Absent 1.
