Fire chief reports 48 October calls; referendum petitions filed for March 2026 ballot

Fire Chief Rich Evans reported operational updates to the board on Nov. 6, saying the department responded to 48 calls in October and that the "20th annual cookie walk" will be held at the firehouse Dec. 13. Chief Evans said he has found a company that might assist in selling the department's ladder truck for parts; he characterized the likely return as modest but potentially useful to the village.
Chief Evans said the petitions for a referendum have been submitted to the district attorney and that staff plan to pursue education about the referendum after the new year. "They are planning more of the education part of the process after the first of the year. It will be on the ballot March 17, 2026," Chief Evans said. President Richard Samples asked the chief to ask the company for an estimate of potential proceeds from selling the ladder truck and to report back to the board.
Trustees did not take formal action on equipment disposal at the Nov. 6 meeting; the board only directed staff to obtain more information and to return with numbers for a later decision.
