"If this passes, it also states that the Village will still support and fund the department the first year," Evans told the board, and he said the transition period reflected the time it would take for the new district to receive tax revenue. He added that "there will be petitions going around the Village as well as door hangers" to inform residents and gather signatures.
Trustees did not vote on establishing a district at the Oct. 22 meeting; the presentation served to alert the board to the resolution language and the planned public outreach. President Richard Samples and Chief Evans indicated the Village would continue support during the district's first year if voters approve the district in a later process.
