The Sweet Home Central School District Board of Education on Jan. 22 authorized settlement payments totaling $2,000,000 for three civil actions filed under the Child Victims Act and approved a bond resolution to finance those costs.
According to the minutes, the board agreed to settle three cases with New York State Supreme Court Index Numbers 810761/2021 ($75,000), 810987/2021 ($1,500,000) and 811174/2021 ($350,000). The board found the total cost to be an "unexpected ordinary contingent expense" of the district and voted to amend the 2025–26 budget by increasing appropriations by $2,000,000 to cover the payments.
The board also adopted a bond resolution dated Jan. 22, 2026, authorizing the issuance of serial bonds or other obligations of the district in an amount not to exceed $2,000,000 to finance the settlements. The resolution delegates to the board president the power to issue bond anticipation notes and take related actions to effectuate the financing. The minutes record the board placing the resolution in the official minutes as its formal action.
The board authorized the superintendent and the board president to execute any documents necessary to finalize the settlements. The vote totals recorded in the minutes for motions across the meeting were Yes 6, No 0, Absent 1.
