Town board to hold hearing on proposed short‑term rental inspection rules

The Taghkanic Town Board agreed Sept. 9 to send proposed changes to Local Law 1–2024 (short‑term rental regulation) to counsel and to hold a public hearing Oct. 14, 2024 at 7:15 p.m. as part of LL 3–2024. The draft inspection section requires owners to arrange and pay for an inspection by an independent licensed New York State home inspector who must confirm the dwelling and regulated features comply with the New York State Building Code and related standards before a short‑term rental (STR) permit is issued.
Under the draft, the Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) would review inspection reports and may require re‑inspection if property conditions change; if an inspection fails, the CEO must notify the applicant in writing of corrective action required. Board Member Elisabeth Albert moved to send the changes to Attorney Fitzsimmons and set the hearing; the motion passed unanimously.
