A presenter for the request said the sensors provide local, low‑altitude weather readings that emergency management staff can use to make more localized decisions during severe weather and noted the sensors are contracted by DroneUp, a drone operator. Council asked no substantive technical questions and the item was moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to execute the agreement and allows city staff access to the sensor data. The presentation included a map and photo of the proposed locations and staff said a company representative (identified in the audience) was available to answer technical questions.
