The Connersville City Council opened a public hearing Aug. 3 to inform the public that United Technologies — described in the meeting as Connersville’s largest single-site employer with roughly 300 employees — had not filed Urban Enterprise Zone paperwork by the May 15 deadline and that the UEZ board must consider any request to allow a late filing.
An agency official gave an overview of the Urban Enterprise Zone’s purpose "to promote economic growth, job creation, and neighborhood improvement in distressed enterprise distressed urban areas," and explained that the public hearing is the forum to take comments before the UEZ board meets to approve or deny an exception for a late filing. The chair closed the hearing after no one present indicated they wished to speak; the UEZ board will consider the request in a separate meeting.
