Student councils report drives, events and $1,132.49 donation to childhood cancer group

Elementary Student Council presented a year-end summary of activities including Red Ribbon Week recognition, a food drive that filled 12 boxes for The Mustard Seed Food Pantry at Bergen United Methodist Church, a cafeteria-behavior paper-chain competition that rewarded 5th grade, and fundraising to pay for Kona Ice on Olympic Day. Two representatives from C.U.R.E. attended an April meeting and Student Council voted to collect coins for the organization; "Our school collected $1,132.49!" the minutes state.
The Jr./Sr. High Student Council reported on upcoming officer applications (due June 2) and student voting scheduled for June 4, Field Day plans for May 29 (including a geocaching scavenger hunt), and partnerships that will bring DWI-awareness activities to the event. Student Council also noted plans to launch a monthly newsletter and to collect club highlights for future reports.
Student-led activities and fundraising described at the May 21 board meeting were highlighted as contributing to student engagement and community service throughout the year.
