Commission asks to receive monthly fire/EMS incident reports to close data gaps on bicycle and pedestrian crashes
Summary
The commission voted to receive monthly fire-department incident reports (and to invite a fire representative quarterly) to capture EMS-only incidents and help reconcile gaps in the state motor-vehicle crash database for better safety analysis.

Commissioners voted to request that the fire department provide its monthly incident summaries to the Mobility & Traffic Safety Commission so the MTSC can incorporate EMS/first-responder data into collision analyses. One commissioner explained a key data gap: the California crash reporting system primarily records motor-vehicle crashes and can miss many solo bicycle incidents and other EMS-triggered calls. The fire agency already produces similar reports for City Council quarterly; commissioners asked that the reports be attached to MTSC agendas and requested fire staff appear (quarterly preferred) to explain and contextualize the data.
Commissioners said consolidated EMS and sheriff data would help identify hot spots and recurring incident types by neighborhood, and help the MTSC refine engineering or enforcement recommendations. The commission passed the motion to receive the reports and ask the fire department to present as able.
