Byron-Bergen board certifies $28.93 million budget, approves bus purchase and elects two trustees

The Byron-Bergen Central School District Board of Education certified the May 19 voting results and approved the district’s $28,930,059 budget for the 2026–27 school year during its May 21 meeting. The board’s certification recorded a 286–138 vote in favor of the budget and formally authorized the district to raise the necessary levy after available state aid and other revenues are applied.
Board members also certified Proposition #2 to acquire up to four gas/diesel school buses, with the district stating no electric buses will be purchased and an estimated maximum total cost not to exceed $408,500; that measure passed 313–108. The bus purchase language in the proposition allows the district to finance the cost through bonds, notes, or a lease-purchase agreement, taking into account state aid. The board noted the estimate ($408,500) as the maximum projected cost.
The board certified the results for two open Board of Education seats: Lisa Forsyth received 361 votes and Cindy Matthews received 348 votes; write-in candidates were recorded but not elected. President D. List thanked the community for voting, saying "the Buzzin’ Bistro was a great night," and noted the district recorded a 67% positive vote overall for the budget.
The certification motion was handled as part of the meeting’s New Business and passed on board action during the May 21 meeting.
