Traffic Sergeant Christy Trampas of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office presented the July traffic report to the Encinitas Mobility & Traffic Safety Commission, saying the department recorded 23 collisions that month and 22 DUI arrests tied to enforcement shifts along major corridors. "So there were 23 last month," Trampas said, and she showed maps of citation and collision locations that highlighted the 101 corridor, Manchester Avenue and El Camino Real.
Trampas described the report's structure — a citation breakout for speeding, stop-sign, cell-phone and red-light violations followed by maps for speeds over 65 mph and a year-to-date collision heat map — and answered commissioners' questions on correlations between increased DUI enforcement and falling collisions. Captain Watts of the North Coastal Station told the commission that adding two traffic deputies aimed to deter risky behavior: "If you come into our community and you, enjoy the establishments and you drink some alcohol, then you'll get home responsibly. And if you don't, there's gonna be a high probability that you will be pulled over and held accountable." The sheriff's office also reported five bicycle collisions in July; Trampas said all were vehicle-versus-bicycle crashes (none identified as e-bikes) and that one involved a major injury while the rest were minor.
