Plano mayor’s summer internship program draws praise; two Murphy students describe hands‑on experience

Amber Zuckerman (speaker 16) told the council that the Plano Mayor Summer Internship Program is an eight‑week earn‑and‑learn program that placed 65 interns in 2024 and has placed nearly 1,000 students since 2014. She described a rubric-based selection, a job‑fair and enrichment activities such as mock interviews and a community‑service day that packed 24,000 meals.
Two interns from Murphy spoke about their experiences. Ananya Chinduri (speaker 18) said, "There are no words to express my gratitude for the incredible experience I had with the Plano mayor's summer internship program...I was able to learn in‑depth about the roles of occupational therapist." Mikhail Rizvi (speaker 19) described his tech internship at Liberty Mutual and said the work gave him "invaluable insight into the professional world." Amber asked local businesses to host interns or provide sponsorship dollars to expand opportunities.
Council members thanked the presenters and recognized the program’s role in workforce development and student retention in the region.
