A staff member at the event said, "We're out here at, National Night Out, and we do this, on an annual basis usually in August," as families gathered at Century Park for an evening of games, food and outreach.
Organizers described this as the first National Night Out at Century Park after several years of alternating formats. The speaker said the city previously conducted the event as a large, single-location gathering at the city park, then moved to smaller neighborhood events, and decided this year to return to one central site. "This is the 1st time we've done this at, Century Park," the staff member said.
The event included multiple community partner booths, art stations and prize-based games for children. The staff member said the setup was intended to give kids a relaxed environment to meet police officers "in an environment where they're not watching them have to do police work," adding that attendees could "shake some hands, do some fist bumps, and, maybe grab some food and have a good time." No formal actions, votes or policy decisions were announced during the remarks. The gathering was presented as an annual community-police outreach effort focused on relationship-building rather than enforcement or legislation.
