City outlines sidewalk repairs: round 1 complete, round 2 underway and staff recommends contract extension

Staff member Laura updated the City Council on the sidewalk and street rehabilitation program, saying a contract awarded to Cam Creek Construction for $330,000 completed 49 sidewalk locations and four street panels and that the city has spent $207,000 to date ($114,364 for sidewalks and $93,101.50 for street panels). Laura said roughly $123,000 remains from the initial allocation and staff has identified round‑2 locations including the 200 block of Oak Bluff Drive; lowering a problematic manhole there and completing adjacent panels would leave about $83,000 for roughly 30 additional sidewalk locations. “We completed 49 sidewalk locations and we did 4 street panels,” Laura said as she summarized round‑1 results.

Laura told council staff recommends extending the Cam Creek contract for another year and recommended budgeting $400,000 in the coming fiscal year for flatwork, panels, sidewalks and occasional curb and gutter work. She also proposed exploring alternative repair methods – polyurethane/structural foam and concrete shaving/cutting – and noted staff has identified locations to pilot those approaches to maximize available dollars. Council members asked about prioritization, durability and whether overlays or alternative materials (asphalt) might be appropriate; staff said round 2 is underway and they will return with a resolution authorizing an extension of the contractor agreement.
