Council approves commission appointments and a policy resolution to guide naming of public spaces

The council approved a slate of appointments across multiple city commissions. Confirmations included Michael Murray, Michelle Gallagher and Joseph Logue to the Sister City Commission; Lou Keen and James Lapin to the Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission; Paul Miller, Harley H. Tinney, Nancy Grenell and Paul Zappari to the Public Sculpture Commission; and Meg Dodge to the Trust and Investment Commission.
Separately, the council adopted a resolution asking the administration and the Tree and Open Space Commission to draft a policy to govern naming of public spaces, including standards for community involvement, plaque size and location and financial liability. The resolution also moved forward a community request to consider naming a small square near Thames, Green and Pelham Streets "JK Sullivan Square." The resolution passed on voice vote.
