The Santee School District Board of Education on May 6 met with school principals to gather input on student use of smartphones on campus, a topic the board said it will address in a district policy ahead of Assembly Bill 3216 taking effect July 1, 2026. President Barbara Ryan called the meeting to order at 4:45 p.m. at the Charles Skidmore Administration Center; the meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
Superintendent Dr. Kristin Baranski and principals discussed expectations and practical concerns about device access and supervision on campus. The board recorded that the information gathered at the meeting will be used to develop a policy for student smartphone use. President Ryan also invited members of the public to comment, and the minutes state that there were no public comments at the session.
