In a staff presentation, Mr Story described a multi‑phase selection process, including assessments led by outside chiefs, and said the panel concluded Major Littlejohn "is the right leader to serve as our next chief of police." The staff presentation listed career highlights for Littlejohn, including service since 1988, assignments in patrol, community policing, professional standards, promotion milestones and recognition such as the Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.
Major Littlejohn told council he is "truly honored, to to be the next police chief of the Spartanburg Police Department" and said he is committed to serving the community and to building on his long local career. He offered to answer questions as the transition proceeds; staff said more information about official ceremonies and transition logistics will be released in the coming days.
