Council unanimously reappointed Alan Rich as city judge and Daniel Hunt as city prosecutor during the Dec. 9 meeting. Kevin Haughey moved to reappoint Judge Rich with Ollie Harmon seconding; Ruthie Seward moved to reappoint Prosecutor Daniel Hunt with Carrie Ousley seconding; both motions carried as recorded in the minutes.
Council reselected the Athens newspaper as the city’s newspaper of record after a motion by Ollie Harmon and a second from Kevin Haughey. On the question of appointing a Mayor Pro‑Tem, Mayor Castleberry suggested tabling the item until applications to fill two vacancies are received; Ruthie Seward moved to table the appointment and Ollie Harmon seconded, and the motion carried. The council announced applications for Place 2 and Place 3 will be reviewed during the January 2025 meeting.
