Cedar Park, LISD launch co-op apprenticeship for public works certifications

City staff and Leander ISD presented a new co-op apprentice program that provides on-the-job training, certifications and a path to a provisional Water D License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; the program currently has three apprentices.
City staff and representatives from Leander Independent School District described a new co-op apprenticeship with Cedar Park Public Works and Utilities that will give students hands-on experience and industry certifications.
"The program provides on-the-job training, certifications, and the opportunity to obtain a provisional Water D License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality," said Carrie Coble, senior HR business partner. Coble told Council the program currently has three apprentices. Sarah Spradling, LISD work-based learning coordinator, addressed Council to explain how the district supports placements and student supervision.
Council received the presentation as informational; staff described the program as a pipeline for certified operators and a training pathway for students interested in water utility careers.
