Tupper Lake board forms ethics, procurement review committee after executive session as Comptroller monitoring is noted

After a 15-minute executive session convened at 6:17 p.m., the Town Board voted to create a committee to review the Town’s Ethics Policy, procurement, bidding and local laws; the committee will include former board members, resident and non-resident taxpayers and one member with a government-affairs or legal background and is expected to deliver recommendations within 90 days.
Councilman Adam Boudreau told the board he had confirmed the New York State Comptroller’s Office is aware of the newspaper coverage concerning town government and municipal law and that the Comptroller may initiate an audit without a local vote. Resident Stephen Jellie asked whether the board would investigate multiple allegations of potential conflicts of interest involving the Supervisor and other officials; Town Attorney Kirk Gagnier replied that the reason for the executive session was stated in the motion and that the formation of the review committee resulted from those discussions.
