Councilman Adam Boudreau moved to advance the Train Station Site Enhancement Project to public bid; the motion was seconded by Councilman Owen Littlefield and passed 5–0.
Town documents show the project is funded by two NYS DEC Adirondack Park Smart Growth Grants totaling $441,365 (Round 7: $300,000; Round 8: $141,365) and will pay for earthwork and grading, a paved parking area with concrete curbing, cast-in-place concrete pathways, stone-dust trail connections, landscaping, exterior staining/painting of the train station building, a public-art installation and wayfinding signage. The report states the Town Planner reviewed the project and determined it "qualifies as a Type 2 Action under SEQRA," meaning no further state environmental review is required under SEQRA for this work.
Board materials outline an anticipated schedule: final plan revisions after an April 16 comment deadline, issuance of bid documents, bid receipt and review, contract award and construction completion by fall 2026. The board also authorized staff to solicit quotes for site amenities including picnic tables and a bike repair station and to solicit contractor bids for painting and staining of the station building.
Councilman Boudreau flagged interior issues discovered at the building and recommended North Woods Engineering inspect the station interior in conjunction with the exterior work to ensure contract documents address any structural or finish repairs.
The board separately authorized the Supervisor to request a formal signage proposal from Darwin Designs for three train-station signs; the signage budget is listed at $23,500 from the Round 8 grant allocation.
The board’s vote to move the project forward was unanimous; next steps are finalizing plan sheets, completing bid manuals and publishing the public bid notice.
