Supervisor Rick Dattola informed the board that mandated structural upgrades to the Town Dog Pound required by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets were projected to cost upwards of $50,000.
DCO Wayne LaPierre told the board he had spoken with Tri‑Lakes Humane Society, which has already completed facility upgrades and would be willing to accept dogs picked up by the town that cannot be returned to owners for a few thousand dollars more per year. LaPierre said he will follow up with the humane society and present detailed proposals to the board so members can decide how to proceed.
The board discussed costs and the possibility of contracting with the humane society rather than making significant capital expenditures to the town facility. No final decision was made; staff will return with cost comparisons and implementation details.
