Council hears briefing on Texas Gas Service rate request; public hearing closed with no comments

Finance Director Kevin Klosterboer briefed the council on Texas Gas Service Company’s Statement of Intent to change gas rates in the Central-Gulf service area and said the council previously suspended the rate from taking effect for the maximum 90 days allowed under law to Oct. 4, 2024 so cities could evaluate the proposal. Klosterboer told the council that, through participation in a coalition of similarly situated cities, the proposed rate increase was determined to be unreasonable.
Mayor Penniman-Morin opened the public hearing and no members of the public spoke. The hearing was closed and will proceed per the ordinance-first-reading schedule recorded in the meeting packet; the minutes identify this item as a first reading and public hearing on an ordinance denying Texas Gas Service Company’s requested rate increase.
