Planning Director Patricia Reynolds introduced Interface Studio as the lead consultant on Newport’s 2027 comprehensive-plan update; Interface project manager Wendy (Mindy) Watts described a multiwave 18‑month process that includes six consultant visits, tours, stakeholder interviews and public events. "Municipalities must update their comprehensive plan every 10 years," Watts said, adding the consultant team will combine data, prior local plans and creative engagement tools including a collaborative bilingual map and open‑house events.
Councilors pressed the team on how to reach off‑season residents and how advisory groups would be formed; the consultant said online tools, translated postcards and a December envisioning workshop will be part of the outreach plan. Staff said the consultant will return in early December for a major public event and then again in February to report on initial findings.
