Resident Mark Haney urges Connellsville ISD to add lighting, consider new ag barn

At the Connellsville Independent School District Board of Trustees meeting on Dec. 15, 2025, resident Mark Haney urged the board to address safety concerns at the district agricultural barn, asking for exterior lighting on the south side where parents park and for the district to coordinate with GCEC to add a street light or have maintenance place LED fixtures. "Because of the safety concerns of our kids, it is completely way dark out there," Haney said, adding that better lighting would help students who work with animals after sunset.
Haney also asked the board to consider building a new, enclosed barn facility with fans and good lighting to support livestock projects. He suggested modest capacity targets — "up to 5 steers, 5 heifers, 10 pigs, 10 goats, 10 sheep" — and compared the current barn unfavorably to facilities in nearby districts such as Aubrey, Howe and Bells. Haney identified himself to the board during the public-comment period: "I am Mark Haney." The board thanked him and proceeded to executive session following public comment; no formal action on Haney's requests was recorded in open session.
