The Manistee County Land Bank Authority voted on July 7 to award a contract to Pitsch Companies for asbestos abatement and demolition of the house at 267 Third Street for $57,000. The motion was made by Eric Gustad and supported by Gary Buren; the roll call vote was 3–0 with two members absent.
Officials listed four bids for the project: Bay Area Demolition ($57,500), Dore & Associates ($74,800), Pitsch Companies ($57,000) and Swidorski Brothers ($99,450). Consultant Susan Wenzlick told the Authority that Pitsch submitted the lowest responsible bid and recommended awarding the work to that firm to keep the project on an accelerated schedule tied to grant requirements.
The contract award followed confirmation from a Pitsch Companies representative that the firm had no recent asbestos-related compliance violations and that it could meet the Sept. 1, 2026 completion target. Project manager Katie Gruenberg and Chair Rachel Nelson emphasized the need to finish promptly so the Authority can file required documentation for reimbursement through the State Land Bank Authority.
The Authority’s next step is to finalize contract paperwork and proceed with asbestos abatement before demolition; staff will submit claims to the State Land Bank Authority consistent with the grant timeline.
