Thurston Board to retain Harter, Secrest & Emery LLP as town attorney under blended rate

Megan K. Dorritie of Harter Secrest & Emery LLP introduced herself to the Town Board and outlined the firm's municipal-law capabilities, noting the firm's size and the availability of attorneys across New York State. She told the board there would be no retainer if the town retained the firm and that the town could choose between an hourly rate or a blended rate that would apply regardless of which attorney provided services; travel time would not be charged for on-site work.
Later in the meeting the board voted to retain Ms. Dorritie and the firm of Harter Secrest & Emery LLP using the blended-rate proposal. The motion was made by Holly Chase and seconded by Jennifer Hargrave and passed with all present voting aye. Supervisor Michael Volino expressed gratitude to outgoing Town Attorney Rachel Trechler for providing pro bono counsel in recent years and noted her retirement from the position.
